The Royal Burgh of Irvine was divided in two by the River Irvine until the construction of the Rivergate Shopping Mall which bridges the river. Irvine New Town is well served by a wide selection of shops and by the excellent multi-purpous sports centre, the Magnum.

Culture and history are not been forgotten with the Harbour Arts Centre and the Scottish Maritime Museum.
