Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe has been appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Lord Adonis, the Transport Minister.

The appointment will inevitably raise the MP's profile in matters of transport, which he sees as extremely relevant to his wider responsibilities representing the people of Central Ayrshire in Westminster: o "People in the constituency will know how passionate I am about the development of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, as well as my links with the rail network and my deep interest in sea and road issues. oTransport is hugely important to the people of Central Ayrshire, and for me it has remained a fundamental issue throughout my time as an MP.o I feel very honoured to have been invited to take up this position, which I can only feel will be to the advantage of my constituency".

This is the second transport-related appointment for Brian Donohoe in recent weeks. oHe has just been made Chair of the newly reconvened House of Commons All-Party Aviation Group.

Lord Adonis is Minister of State for Rail, and speaks for all transport issues in the House of Lords.

For information: oA parliamentary private secretary is an MP appointed by a minister to be his or her unpaid assistant. oA PPS acts as a minister's eyes and ears in Parliament, making sure the minister is kept well informed of backbench opinion on his or her performance. oAn appointment as a PPS is usually seen as the first rung on the ladder towards ministerial office.
